// What Is Hardware Insertion?

PEM self-clinching fasteners are pressed into a pre-punched hole under controlled force — the knurl or serrations permanently lock into the sheet material, providing strong load-bearing threads where tapping alone is insufficient.

// Design Rule

Design your sheet metal part with the correct hole diameter for each hardware type. Hardware is installed before any bending where possible, and always before powder coating or anodizing. Minimum sheet thickness applies per type.

// Materials Available

Carbon Steel (zinc-plated, suffix -ZI) and Stainless Steel (303/304 SS, suffix -SS) for all types. Installed into aluminum, steel, and stainless sheet. Min sheet thickness varies by thread size — see each type for details.

PEM Nuts

Standard self-clinching nuts providing permanent, load-bearing threads in thin sheet metal. The body protrudes slightly from one side — ideal where clearance on the back face is available.

PEM Flush Nuts

Remain completely flush on both sides of the sheet after installation. Required where mating surfaces must be flat or when stacking multiple panels. Smaller outer diameter than standard nuts.

PEM Studs

Create a permanent threaded post protruding from the sheet for attaching PCBs, brackets, or panels with nuts. Available in multiple protrusion lengths. Smaller shank hole than nuts.

PEM Standoffs

Through-threaded hex spacers permanently installed in the sheet. Used to mount PCBs or panels at a fixed height above the parent sheet. Both ends accept a bolt or screw.

PEM Blind Standoffs

Closed-end standoffs that accept a bolt from one side only. Protects internal threads from debris, liquids, and contamination. Provides a clean finished look on the opposite face.
